SOUTH BEND - Joseph A. Molnar, 87, residing in South Bend, passed away at 5 a.m. Friday, April 9, 2010, in Memorial Hospital, South Bend. Joe was born on November 10, 1922, in South Bend, to Anton and Mary (Curtis) Molnar. On April 6, 1946, in South Bend, IN, at Our Lady of Hungary Church, he married Wanda E. Polley, who passed away on June 24, 2000. His grandson, Kristopher Kuehm, sister, Katherine Molnar, and brother, Anton "Tony" Molnar, all preceded him in death. Mr. Molnar is survived by three daughters, Nancy Molnar of South Bend, Carol Kuehm of Hamden, CT, and Pamela (Brian) Balint of Mishawaka; four grandchildren, Kyle Kuehm, Emily Doan, Bradley Balint and Audrey Balint; and three great-grandchildren, Victoria Sikorski, Ashlee Cowper and Alaina Doan. Joe was a graduate of Washington High School in the Class of 1940. He served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II with the 103rd Infantry Division's 409th Infantry Regiment in North Africa, Italy, France, Germany and Austria, and was the recipient of the Purple Heart. Joe retired from the former Indiana Bell Telephone Company after 40 years and 10 months of service, and was a life member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. He was a member of St. Joseph Young Men's Society, was a phenomenal euchre player and an avid fan of Notre Dame football. He and his wife shared their home over the years with their miniature schnauzers, Heidi, Muffy and Abby. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 13, 2010, in the Palmer Funeral Home - Hickey Chapel, 17131 Cleveland Road, South Bend. Dr. William Wassner will officiate. Military services and entombment will follow in Riverview Mausoleum, South Bend. Friends may visit with the family from 4:00-8:00 p.m. on Monday in the funeral home.
