Sister Virginia Miceli, C.S.C., 72, of Saint Mary's Convent, Notre Dame, Ind., died on Friday, Aug. 6, at Saint Mary's.

 

She was born on Jan. 17, 1927, in Elkhart, Ind., the daughter of Basilio and Catherine Miceli.

 

She is survived by a sister, Mrs. Yolanda Horne of Elkhart, and by several nieces and nephews. Two sisters and a brother preceded her in death.

 

Sister Virginia founded the Basic Adult Education Center in Elkhart and served as director of the center for the past 26 years. From 1965-1972 she taught and was principal at St. Vincent School in Elkhart. From 1949-1965 she taught in several schools in Indiana and Illinois. This year she celebrated her golden anniversary as a Sister of the Holy Cross.

 

Sister Virginia was a graduate of Elkhart High School and received degrees from St. Mary's College and the University of Notre Dame.

 

Family and fiends may pay their respects at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 8, in the Church of Loretto, St. Mary's.

 

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 9, at the Church of Loretto, St. Mary's.

 

The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, gifts be made to the Sister Virginia Miceli Memorial Scholarship Fund at St. Mary's College, 110 LeMans Hall, Notre Dame, IN 46556.
