Rev. William P. Lennartz CSC, 72, former pastor of St. Joseph Catholic Church, died at 11 p.m. Sunday in St. Joseph Hospital after an illness since last August. Father Lennartz was born in Fort Recovery, O., Aug. 26, 1878, and was ordained into the Holy Cross order at the University of Notre Dame in 1912. He received the L.L.D. degree from the University of Notre Dame and the S.T.B. degree from Catholic University of America, Washington.

 

For several years he was the pastor of St. Joseph Catholic Church here. Then he was appointed to the ZSt. Mary’s Church, Austin, Texas. His last post before his illness was as chaplain of the Reitz Memorial High School, Evansville, Ind. He was the former assistant superior of the Holy Cross Seminary at Notre Dame. Also at one time he taught religion at the University of Notre Dame, and at the Holy Cross College, Washington.

 

Surviving are a brother and sister, Adam and Rose Lennartz, both of St. Henry, O., and another brother, Joseph of Anderson, Ind. Friends may call in the McGann Funeral Home after 7 p.m. today. The rosary will be recited there at 8 p.m. today. The body will be taken to the Corby Hall chapel at the University of Notre Dame where friends may call after 1 p.m. At 4 p.m. Tuesday the Office of the Death will be recited in the chapel. Funeral services will be conducted at 9 a.m. Wednesday in the St. Joseph Catholic Church, with Rev. Patrick J. Haggerty CSC the celebrant; Rev. Philip V. Beaghan CSC, pastor will be the deacon and Rev. Salvatore Fannelli CSC, assistant pastor, will be the sub-deacon.
