Rose Lemanski

SOUTH BEND - Rose Lemanski, 98, of South Bend, passed away on Monday, January 7, 2008, in Saint Joseph Care Center West, South Bend. She was born on August 28, 1909, in South Bend, to the late Stanislaw and Anna (Maleck) Hojara.

 

On May 18, 1927, she married Fred Hoida, who preceded her in death on January 20, 1941. On April 20, 1945, she married Stephen Lemanski, who preceded her in death on December 15, 1984. Rose is survived by her son, Robert (Gertrud) Hoida of Killeen, TX; her three daughters, Betty Hoida of South Bend, Helen (Kenneth) Milner of North Liberty, IN and Frances Lemanski of South Bend; her sister, Evelyn Lucas of Franklin, IN; her brother, Floyd of Niles, MI; 14 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great grandchildren. Her son, Eugene Hoida, preceded her in death on May 23, 1994.

 

During World War II, Rose was employed at South Bend Toy Factory. During the War years, the factory was a contractor to the Government and produced items for the military such as ammunition cases. Her greatest enjoyment was spent as a homemaker for her family and preparing delicious baked goods. Her specialty was cream puffs, which she shared with relatives and friends. In her younger years, she enjoyed crocheting and embroidery. She also loved to go shopping, and she enjoyed traveling to different areas of the United States. Rose was a member of the Philanthropic Department of the Progress Club. She was a member of St. Mary's National Catholic Church, where she was active in various Church societies, serving as Financial Secretary of the Rosary Society, a member of Branch 66 of the Polish National Union of America, a member of the Friends of Children Society, a member of the Ladies Adoration Society, and a member of the Kitchen Committee. She also served on the 50th Jubilee Committee for the Church. She loved volunteering for Church functions, especially dinners sponsored by the Church.

 

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday January 11, 2008, in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, where a wake service will take place at 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, January 12, 2008, in St. Mary's National Catholic Church, 1601 W Sample St., South Bend. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Mary's National Catholic Church, 159 N. Summit Drive, South Bend, IN 46619 A special thank you to the staff at Saint Joseph Care Center for the wonderful care given to Rose.
