Dennis E. Laughlin, 66, of Stoneridge Drive, South Bend, Ind., died following a short illness at 9:50 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 16, in Hospice House, South Bend. Mr. Laughlin was born on Dec. 27, 1933, in South Bend, to John L. and Frances M. (Reichelderfer) Laughlin, and was a lifetime area resident. He is survived by two daughters, Erin (Ryan) Randolph of South Bend and Kelly (Jim) Laughlin-Parker of Waukesha, Wis.; a son, Michael (Siobhan) Laughlin of Indianapolis, Ind.; five grandchildren, Colleen, Bridget and Conor Parker, and Aoife and Eamon Laughlin; and two brothers, John (Dorothy) Laughlin of Huntington, Ind., and James (Joanne) Laughlin of Kansas City, Mo. Mr. Laughlin was employed as the art director for WNDU-TV and is well known as the advisor for the "Beyond Our Control" television program which involved area high school students. He attended Holy Cross Catholic Church at Holy Cross Junior College, and was a member of the Notre Dame Alumni Association. He graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 1955, and was veteran of the U.S. Army.

 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 20, in the Basilica of the Sacred Heart, University of Notre Dame, with Monsignor John Wall, cousin of Mr. Laughlin, officiating. Cremation will follow. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today, Dec. 19, in the Welsheimer Funeral Home North, 17033 Cleveland Road, South Bend.
