“DIES AT 82”

Marceli Latkowski, aged 82, of 2126 Lincoln Way West, one of the organizers of St. Stanislaus Catholic parish, died at 3:45 p.m. Friday in his home after nine-days illness with pneumonia. He was a former Studebaker corporation foreman, who retired 18 years ago after 38 years service.

Born in Strzelno Poland, Oct. 27, 1863, was married there May 14, 1889, and their wedding trip was a voyage to America to make their home in South Bend. The couple arrived here June 5, 1889. They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary six years ago.

Surviving besides the widow, Magdalen, are two sons, Roman and Theodore H. Latkowski; seven daughters, Mrs. Eva Gorka, South Bend; Mrs. Veronica Cukrowicz, Milwaukee, Wis.; Sister M. Salome, superior of St. Susanne’s school and organist of St. Susanne’s Catholic church, Harvery, Ill.; Sister M. Marcellia, x-ray technician at St. Joseph’s hospital, Clayton, N.M., and Sister M. Wladyslawita, Harvey, all of the Sisters of the Holy Family of Nazareth congregation; Mrs. Helen Skrzypczak and Mrs. Genevieve Staszewski, both of South Bend; 14 grandchildren and two great- grandchildren.

Friends may call after 5 p.m. today at the home. The funeral will be held at 9 a.m. Tuesday in St. Stanislaus’ Catholic church with Rev. Anthony J. Rozewicz, C.S.C., pastor, chanting the requiem high mass. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Polish cemetery. Mr. Latkowski was a member of St. Stanislaus’ Fraternal Aid society.
