Robert Lasane, Jr.

Mr. Robert Lasane, Jr., 75, beloved father, grandfather and brother, who resided on Governors Boulevard, South Bend, Ind., passed away following an illness at 4:45 p.m. on Saturday, July 4, at Regency Place of South Bend. On June 13, 1923, in Hemingway, N.C., he was born to the union of the late Robert and Susie (Carr) Lasane, Sr., in Des Moines, Iowa. On Oct. 28, 1944, he married Martha Bell Smith. Martha Bell also preceded him in death on Aug. 4, 1990. He is survived by a son, Renard (Doye) Lasane of Bridgeton, Mo.; three grandchildren, Scott Lasane of Bridgeton, Mo., and Marcus and Renee Lasane, both of South Bend; one great-grandchild; and three sisters, Juanita Hinton of Virginia Beach, Va., Ruth Williams of Raleigh, N.C., and Lula Mae (Louis) Williams of New York, N.Y.; along with other relatives and friends. In 1947 Mr. Lasane was honorably discharged from the United States Coast Guard. He retired from the A.M. General Corporation in September 1988 after being employed as a quality engineer. He also was a member of the First A.M.E. Zion Church where he served as a trustee and a member of the male choir.
