Brother Boniface Landenberger CSC

Brother Boniface (Titus) Landenberger CSC, 77, CSC of Niles, Ill. died Saturday in Chicago after a brief illness. He was the sacristan at Sacred Heart Parish, Notre Dame from 1926 to 1963. He was born on Nov. 5, 1899 in Tubingen, Germany. He served with the German army for two years on the western front in World War I. After the was he emigrated to the United States and entered the Holy Cross Brothers novitiate at Watertown, Wis. He made his first profession of vows in 1923, and his final vows as a coadjutor-brother in the Priests Society, Indiana Province of Holy Cross, on July 2, 1927.

 

As sacristan for 37 years at Notre Dame he was in charge of liturgical preparations for services throughout the campus. He also trained hundreds of altar servers at Notre Dame. In 1963 he joined the staff of Notre Dame High School, Niles, Ill. where he was guest master for 15 years, moderator of the Alumni Mothers Club and a member of the German-American Friendship Club.

 

Services will be at St. John Brebuef Catholic Church, Niles. A wake service will be at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Corby Hall Chapel, Notre Dame, where the Mass of the Resurrection will be at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday.
