Margaret Irene Klopfenstein, 91, of 206 E. Marion St., South Bend, died at 1:45 a.m. Thursday, January 27, 2005, in her residence at the Milton Home. Mrs. Klopfenstein was born April 20, 1913, in Boone County, Ind., to the late John and Ethel (Buchanan) Reed, and had lived in the South Bend area since 1938. On May 14, 1932, as Margaret I. Reed, she married Harry W. Klopfenstein, who preceded her in death February 27, 1988. Also preceding her in death were a daughter, JoAnn Fowler; two sisters, Frances Williams and Gertrude Zigler; four brothers, Raymond, Paul, Robert and Donald Reed; and a half brother, Lyle Reed.

She is survived by two daughters, Donna Taelman and Kay Weber, both of Edwardsburg, Mich.; a son-in-law, George Fowler of Holland, Mich.; eight grandchildren, Mark (Judy) Taelman of South Bend, Pamela (Doug) Marsh of Granger, Ind., Timothy (Susan) Fowler of Alpharetta, Ga., Beth Ricksgers of Granger, Thomas (LuAnn) Fowler of Byron Center, Mich., Susan (Thomas) Wilson of Elkhart, Ind., Kathryn (Mark) Laatz of Granger and Michael (Lisa) Weber, Lake-in-Hills, IL; 22 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Dortha Reed of South Bend and Helen (Charles) Hansell of Winamac, Ind. Mrs. Klopfenstein was a member of First Brethren Church of Ardmore and New Carlisle Chapter #320 Order of Eastern Star.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. today, January 29, in the Welsheimer Funeral Home North, 17033 Cleveland Road, with Rev. Jeff Reese of Hope United Methodist Church, Edwardsburg, officiating. Entombment will follow at Highland Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Milton Home Aviary Fund, 206 E. Marion St., South Bend, IN 46601; or to the charity of donor's choice.
