Laura L. Klinghammer

SOUTH BEND - Laura LaVon (Rendall) Klinghammer, 97, died March 9, 2010. Laura began her life on October 18, 1912, in Churubusco, IN, the daughter of (the late) Lawrence and Edna Jones. Laura graduated from the Fort Wayne Lutheran Hospital School of Nursing as an RN in 1934, and was employed over the years by Healthwin TB Hospital, Northern Indiana Children's Hospital and Memorial Hospital, all in South Bend. She concluded her RN career with (the late) Dr. Robert Thompson as his office nurse, also in South Bend. Survivors include her son, Richard F. (Sandie) Rendall, Zephyrhills, FL; daughter, Peggy J. Henderson, South Bend; stepdaughter, Lois (Percy) Dreher, Huntsville, AL; daughter-in-law, June Rendall, Melbourne, FL; grandchildren, Laura (Scott) McCann, South Bend, Brian (Robin) Henderson, North Pole, AK, Scott (Sunny) Rendall, Howell, MI, Eric (Leslie) Rendall, Fowlerville, MI, Teresa (Kerry) Fries, North Carolina, Sherri King and Jeffrey King, Melbourne, FL, Brad and Eric Horner, Huntsville, AL; and 15 great-grandchildren. Laura was preceded in death by her brother, Everett (Thelma) Jones; two sisters, Lucille (Stanley) Myers and Leonne (Leon) Hursoy, all of Churubusco; a son, Jerry A. (June) Rendall, Melbourne, GL; and her husband, Henry Klinghammer, South Bend. An avid reader, Laura also enjoyed traveling, visiting Europe and many States and sites in the U.S. She also enjoyed playing bridge, and the same group of ladies met for bridge and brunch for over 40 years. Laura has donated her body for medical science to the University of Indiana School of Medicine. A celebration of her life for family and friends will be held at a future date. A special thank you to the South Bend Center for Hospice and Palliative Care and also to the Ladies at Home Instead for their help and kindness to out family.
