South Bend Tribune, Jan 21, 1893:
  The late Jacob Kline, jr., whose death occurred Tuesday at 11 a. m., at his home on Vistula Avenue, was born in Brush Valley, Lancaster county, Pa., on August 19, 1820.  When ten months old he moved with his parents to a farm near East Liberty, Summit County, Ohio.  He was first united in marriage in Ohio to Miss Catherine Myers.  After living together about one year she died.  He then married Miss Susanna Maria Heck, near East Liberty, Ohio, sister of James, John and William Heck, Mrs. Jonas Lontz and Mrs. Henry Souders, formerly of this city.  Two children, Mailcarrier Samuel A Kline and Frank Kline; of this city, were the result of the union. Mr. Kline was one of a family of eight children five of whom survive him.  They are Mrs Katie Wise, East Liberty, Ohio; Mrs. Rebecca Wolf, Plymouth, Ind., Mrs Lucinda Jones, city; John Kline, New Portage, Ohio and William Kline, of this city.
  He moved from Ohio to South Bend in 1850. After living here one year he removed his family to South Bend, and has since resided here. He was a cooper by trade and for years carried on a general cooperage business at the corner Sycamore and Water streets.  In 1858 in company with John A Heck, Mell Huey and others he crossed the plains to Pike's Peak returning about a year later and resuming business at the cooper shop.  After giving up the coopering business he went to work for the Birdsell Manufacturing Company holding a contract there for 15 years. He then retired from work, and has since resided at his present home, 910 Vistula avenue.  On October 11, 1885, his second wife Maria died of hemorhage.  He was married to Mrs. Sarah Thornton, of Mishawaka, April 2, 1888. She survives him.  He was a member of the First Presbyterian church, having joined in January, 1886.
  The funeral will be held at the family residence Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock, Rev. Henry Johnson, of the First Presbyterian church, officiating. Friends of the deceased are invited to attend.
