E. Wayne Kletzing

E. Wayne Kletzing, 84, of Granger, Indiana, formerly of Highland and Munster, Indiana, died at 6:35 a.m. Thursday, January 6, in Memorial Hospital, South Bend, Indiana.

He was born on June 19, 1915, in Chicago, Illinois to Jesse (Green) and E.L. Kletzing, both of whom preceded him in death.

On July 26, 1941, in Aurora, Illinois, he married Helen Doolen, who survives. Mr. Kletzing is also survived by a daughter, Carol Daumer of Van Nuys, California; three sons, Dr. Daniel Kletzing M.D. (Nancy) of Granger, Indiana, Rev. Dr. David Kletzing (Karen) of Batavia, Illinois, Rev. Bryan Kletzing (Mary) of Chicago, Illinois; eleven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; and by a sister, Ardath Hoffman (Ray) of Rockford, Illinois.

Mr. Kletzing was a newspaper publisher and business owner. He was the publisher of the Calumet Press for fifty years, which is one of the largest weekly newspapers in the United States. He was a member of the Tri-Town Community Church in St. John, Indiana, and was a fifty year member of the Christian Business Men's Committee. He was a board member of the Calumet Region of Youth for Christ. He was a life member of the Kiwanis Club and the Gideons. He was past president of the National Association of Advertising Publishers and the Indiana State Association of Advertising Publishers. He was former president of the Highland, Indiana Chamber of Commerce and was on the board of the Consolidated Charities in the Highland area. He was chairman of the Highland sesquicentennial celebration and in 1969 was honored as Highland's Outstanding Citizen.

Services for Mr. Kletzing will be at 2 p.m. on Sunday, January 9, in Cornerstone Community Church, 52277 Hickory Road, Granger, Indiana. Rev. Greg Henry of Cornerstone Church will conduct services. Friends may call from 4 to 7 pm on Saturday, January 8, in the Welsheimer Funeral Home North, 17033 Cleveland Road, South Bend, and from 1:30 to 2 p.m. on Sunday in the church. Burial will be at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger, Indiana, immediately following the services.
