Frederick T. Kipp

Frederick Thomas Kipp, 92, died peacefully December 29, 2005, in his daughter's home where she cared for him.

Born December 11, 1913. to Thomas and Tillie Kipp, Fred was a lifelong resident of Mishawaka.

Fred graduated from Mishawaka High School in 1932. On October 7, 1933, he married his sweetheart of many years, Winifred Grace Havens.

He was preceded in death by a son, Leonard; a grandson, Darl Ross Jr.; and a great-grandson, Gregory Matthys. Also preceding him in death were a sister, Orphia Kendle; and two brothers, Harold and Kenneth Kipp.

Fred had a Tribune paper route as a boy, then worked at Studebakers for 27 years, including the last day Studebaker was open. He worked for the Mishawaka Street Department and then at A.M. General for 14 years, retiring in 1974.

After retiring, Fred and Winifred enjoyed traveling to many of our great United States.

Fred is survived by Winifred, his wife of 72 years; son, Darl Ross Sr. (Janet) Kipp of Leesburg, Fla.; a daughter, Myrna Black of South Bend; and a brother, Roy of Mission, Texas; ten grandchildren, Ken (Becky) Kipp of Haines City, Fla., Doug (Sharon) Kipp of Hilliard, Ohio, Tom (Skye) Black of Indianapolis, Ind., Cathy Black, Terri (John) Matthys and Debbie (John) Schaefer, all of South Bend, Karen (Dan) VanOverberghe of New Carlisle, Pam (Bernie) Veldman of South Bend and Paula (John) Walter and Laura (Brent) Dennison, both of Mishawaka. Also surviving is an adopted daughter, Connie Conley of Los Angeles, Calif.; 30 great-grandchildren; and many loving nieces, nephews and cousins.

Fred had a lifelong interest in automobiles and enjoyed working on cars. He enjoyed remodeling homes and, in 1971, helped build his own home.

He was a member of Deer Run Church of Christ. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the church or to Hospice of St. Joseph County.

Visitation will be held at Bubb Funeral Chapel, 3910 N. Main Street, Mishawaka, on Tuesday January 3, 2006 from 2 until 4 and 6 until 8 p.m. Funeral services will be at Bubb Funeral Chapel on Wednesday January 4, at 11:00 a.m., with Rev. Ken Wilkin officiating the services.
