Glen L. Kindley

 May 29, 1910 - May 26, 2010
OSCEOLA - Glen L. Kindley, 99, formerly of Mishawaka, passed away on Wednesday, May 26 in Fountainview Place, Mishawaka. Glen was born on May 29, 1910 in Huntington, IN to Frederick and Iva (Smith) Kindley. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Maryann Scobey, two sisters, Bernice Holcomb and Jeanette Garrett and a brother Dale Kindley. On February 14, 1963 in Clarksville, TN, he married Mary E. Asherman, who preceded him in death on January 22, 1998. Surviving are a daughter, Peggy (Todd) Schmeltz of Osceola; a son William (Sandy) Asherman of Osceola; 10 grandchildren, Brad (Kelly) Citter of Granger, Karey Citter of Mishawaka, Kelly (Dave Limberg) Hunt of South Bend, Neil (Carene) Citter of Mishawaka, Sarah and Emily Schmeltz of Osceola, Billy (Molly) Asherman of Mishawaka, Erin (Andrew) Martin of Mishawaka, George (Nancy) Cole of South Bend and Richard (Missy) Cole of South Bend; 13 great grandchildren and a sister, Ruby Rader of Huntington, IN. Glen graduated from Huntington High School in his hometown and started his grand adventure. Glen said, "I moved over to South Bend and worked at Studebaker until things went kaput there in 1929." He later started his own garage, "I realized I was mechanically inclined when I was 13," he said. He could take apart a Model T, lay all the parts on the floor and then put it all back together and drive it away. He had been driving since he was 10. He always had a knack with gears and gadgets. Glen mainly just liked working on cars...and then locks and safes...and even calculators during World War II. He always had a calm demeanor and he liked talking to people. And because of his experience and what he had seen over the years, people often liked to pick his brain. "Did I tell you about my days?" he said with out waiting for an answer. "All of them are good-but then some are a heckuva lot better than others." Family and friends may visit Today, Friday, May 28 from 3 to 7 p.m. in Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka. Funeral services will be on Saturday, May 29 at 10:00 a.m. in the funeral home with Rev. Robert Vale, officiating. Burial will follow services in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
