Services for Sister M. Martha Kelly CSC, 87, of St. Mary’s Convent, who died there at 9:40 p.m. Tuesday, will be at 4:30 p.m. today in the Church of Loretto, St. Mary’s College. Burial will be in Our Lady of Peace Cemetery at St. Mary’s. Friends may call in the Convent. Memorial contributions may be made to Sisters of Holy Cross Ministry with the Poor Fund.

 

Sister Kelly was born Elizabeth Kelly on Oct. 25, 1899 in Dublin, Ireland. She entered the Congregation of Sisters of Holy Cross at St. Mary’s, on Oct. 20, 1922, after coming from Dublin. She was received as a novice Aug. 15, 1923 and professed her vows Aug. 15, 1925. She was a registered nurse and graduated from Our Saviour’s Hospital, Jacksonville, Ill. Her community and professional assignments were in hospitals in Jacksonville and Cairo, Ill.; Deming, N. M.; Anderson, Ind.; and St. Joseph Medical Center, South Bend. She served in nursing services at the student infirmary at the University of Notre Dame from 1964 to 1968 at at the infirmary of St. Mary’s Convent, where she had lived since 1968.
