Brian Scott Katona, 39, of South Bend, passed away in his sleep on Thursday, April 4 in his residence.

 

Brian was born on September 28, 1962, in South Bend to Don & Suzanne (Heschl) Katona, survived by both parents.  He is also survived by a brother, Jeff Katona and companion, Barb Holleman of Koontz Lake; one sister, Suzette Katona and fiancé, Steve Schmok of South Bend; one uncle, John Katona of South Bend; and one cousin, Mark Katona of California.

 

Brian was the great nephew of Paul & Christine (Weiger) Szalay, Elizabeth (Weiger) Horvath, Bill & Nancy Weiger, Chet & Theresa (Weiger) Majewski, Julie Paksi, Julius Hornyak, Frances (Hornyak) Hojnacki, Freda (Hornyak) Laiber, Lou Paksi, John & Gail Paksi, Mrs. Frank (Irene) Hornyak and Margaret (Hornyak) Compton.  He was the Godson of Spartaco Casini and Kathy (Szalay) Scheu.

 

Brian was self-employed and worked in the South Bend area as an auto mechanic who enjoyed the outdoors, late night TV, dinosaurs, animals, Smarties and most of all, lending a helping hand to those in need.  Brian was an avid fisherman and belonged to the DFV German Club where he could be found serving behind the corn & Sausage table at the picnics.  He was also honorably discharged form the US Army.

 

Family and friends may call from 2 to 6pm today in the Zahoran Funeral Home, 1826 S. Kemble Avenue.

 

Funeral services will be held at 10am Monday, April 8 in Immanuel United Methodist Church, 1211 W. Ewing Avenue.

 

Final resting will follow at Highland Cemetery, South Bend.  Brian will be resting next to his grandmother (Mitzi) and grandfather (Karl) Heschl whom he loved dearly

 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Immanuel United Methodist Church, 1211 W Ewing Avenue.
