John G. Karas,
89, of 425 N. Arthur, died at 7:30am Thursday in his home,
following a brief illness. He was formerly employed with
the Studebaker Corp. and also owned the Karas Food Service,
retiring in the early 1960s.
He was born April
10, 1984, in Sparta, Greece, and lived in South Bend since 1940,
coming from Ironwood MI. On August 28, 1928, in Ironwood,
he married Albena C. Mattioda, who survives. He is also
survived by a daughter, Mrs. Frances Campbell of Naperville IL;
two sons, James N of Libertyville IL and John D. of Terre Haute
IN; three grandchildren; and a brother in Greece.
Services will be
conducted at 8am Saturday at St Andrew’s Greek Orthodox
Church, with rev. Nicholas Petropoulakos, pastor, officiating. Burial
will be in Highland Cemetery.
Friends may call
until 8pm today in the Welsheimer Funeral Home, 521 N. William.
He was a member of the Pan-Arcadiana.
