Ernest A. Kaminski, 78, of West Dunham Street, South Bend, passed away at 11:15 a.m. on Tuesday, August 16, 2005, in Memorial Hospital. He was born on September 11, 1926, in South Bend, to Alex and Tillie (Jurgonski) Kaminski, who preceded him in death along with brothers, Claude, Ralph and Clem Kaminski. On July 4, 1953, in South Bend, Ernest married Irene Jankowiak. Surviving Ernest are his wife, Irene; a son, Duane Kaminski of South Bend; sisters, Hildagard Zakrzewski and Dolores (Frederick) Borsch, all of South Bend; and a brother, Clarence (Joyce) Kaminski of South Bend. Ernest retired after 28 years working as a prototype model maker at Wheel Horse. He was a member of St. Casimir Church, American Legion 357, Knights of Columbus Santa Maria Council 553, and St. Casimir Seniors Club. He loved to fish and he enjoyed golfing. Ernest was a gateman at Notre Dame Stadium for 32 years, JACC for 30 years, and he ushered for the Silver Hawks for five years. Visitation will be today, Aug. 18, from 2 to 8 p.m. in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Road, where a Rosary will be prayed at 3 p.m. Funeral services will be on Friday, August 19, at 10 a.m. in the funeral home. Burial will follow at the St. Joseph Cemetery, South Bend. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Kidney Foundation or to the American Diabetes Association.
