SOUTH BEND - Sonya Tenise Black-Jones passed on Thursday, June
17, 2010, of natural causes in the Saint Joseph Regional Medical
Center. Sonya was born January 9, 1977, to Earlie Love and the
late George B. Black Sr. in South Bend, IN, where she currently
resided. Sonya was a graduate of LaSalle High School in South
Bend and was currently attending Ivy Tech in South Bend to become
a radiologist. She was employed by the Family and Children's
Center where she worked for approximately four years and First
Source Bank for eight years. At a young age Sonya professed
Christ in her life and was a member of Granger Community Church.
On May 29, 2004, Sonya was united in holy matrimony to Albert E.
Jones of Benton Harbor, MI, who survives. Sonya is also survived
by her precious daughter, Sasha Jones of South Bend, IN; her
mother, Earlie Love of Indianapolis, IN, whom she cherished
immensely; three sisters, Karen (Johnny) Choctaw of Indianapolis,
IN, Rosemary Poindexter of South Bend, IN, and Monique (DeWayne)
Miles of Milwaukee, WI; two brothers, David (Darlene) Poindexter
of Seattle, WA, and George (Aracada) Black of South Bend, IN;
maternal grandmother, Willie M. Lovelace of South Bend, IN;
aunts, Patricia Tidwell, Ethel (Harold) Mayfield, Karen (Jeff)
lson and Jewel Thomas, all of South Bend, IN; uncles, Nathaniel
Sylvester, Tom and Big Jim of Jackson, TN; three very special
friends, Linda Thomas and LaKeesha Vanison, and Carla Blue, all
of South Bend; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and a lot
of close friends, too many to name, but you know who your are.
Sonya was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, Willie
Tidwell of South Bend, IN; paternal grandmother, Pat Eva Carter
of Jackson, TN; paternal grandfather, James Black of Humboldt,
TN; and very close cousin, Tory Tidwell of South Bend, IN. Sonya
had a beautiful spirit and will be cherished and missed by all
who knew her. Any donations in honor of Sonya may be made to the
Sonya Black-Jones Foundation at any local First Source Bank.
Funeral services for Sonya T. Black-Jones will be held at noon on
Friday, June 25, 2010, in Alford's Mortuary. Viewing will take
place one hour prior to services in the chapel. Arrangements have
been entrusted to Alford's Mortuary where messages of
