Asa E. Jones

     Asa E. Jones, 82, of 55087 Grape Road,  Mishawaka, died at 3:15 p.m.
Saturday in Memorial Hospital after a brief  illness. He was retired in 1965 from
the Midland Engineering Co., where he  worked as a roofing foreman for 40
years. Born on July 31, 198, in East  Clairdon, Ohio, he had lived in Mishawaka
most of his life. On Feb. 6, 1932, in  Niles, he married Gertrude Rigby, who
died in 1969. He is survived by a  daughter, Mrs. Bonnie Coffman of South Bend ;
a stepdaughter, Mrs. Gertrude Hoy  of Grant Pass, Ore.; seven grandchildren;
nine great grandchildren; a great  great-grandson; and a sister, Mrs. Lillian
Hintz of South Bend.
     Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the  Orvis-Palmer Funeral Home,
336 N. Main. Dr. Max B. Hayden, pastor of St. Peter's  United Church of Christ,
will officiate. Burial will be in St. Joseph Valley  Memorial Park. Friends
may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the  funeral home. He was a
charter member in 1933 and president for 36 years of the  Roofers and Water
Proofers Union.
