SOUTH BEND - Helen Mary Johnston, 69, passed away on Friday, July 2nd, in her residence. Helen was born on November 9, 1940, in Cleveland, Ohio, as the daughter of Alonzo and Mary (Jay) Chambers. On February 15, 1965, as the former Helen Chambers, she married John H. Johnston, who preceded her in death on September 16, 2005. She was also preceded by her parents; and by sisters, Jenny Cook and Nancy Henderson. Helen was an in-home elderly caregiver for many years in this area. Her kind and giving spirit will be missed by all who knew her, and will live on in those also. Helen is survived by her children, Rick (Pauline) Powell of Louiston, Maine, Ron (Cindy) Powell of Middlebury, Robin (Mike) Dodson of Nappanee, John (Leta) Johnston of South Bend, Scott (Jeanette) Johnston of Osceola and James (Laura) Johnston of Mishawaka; 21 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; and four sisters, Ann (Joe) Duricki of Edwardsburg, Sara (Al) Jones of North Liberty, Betty Johnson of Fort Myers, FL, and Sue Meyers of Terre Haute. Friends and family may call on Tuesday, July 6th, from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. in Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka. Funeral services will be on Friday at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home, with Rev. Beverly Hanks officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery, Plymouth.
