Veda L. Johnson

Jan. 26, 1920 - July 31, 2000

Veda L. Johnson, 80, formerly residing on Berkley Circle, Mishawaka, Ind., passed away at 6:25 p.m. on Monday, July 31, in Miller's Merry Manor, Wakarusa, Ind., where she had been a patient for nine weeks.

Mrs. Johnson was born on Jan. 26, 1920, in Kadoka, S.D., to the late Leslie and Mary (Whitmore) Doll. On Feb. 6, 1938, in Osceola, Ind., as Veda Doll, she married Cecil Johnson, who also preceded her in death on Feb. 21, 1986.

She had resided in the Mishawaka/Osceola areas most of her life, and retired in 1979 from CTS in Elkhart, Ind., where she had been employed for more than 30 years.

Mrs. Johnson is survived by three daughters, twins, Bonita (Larry) Bella and Barbara (Chuck) Walsh, both of South Bend, and Nancy Woodford of Dallas, Texas; a son, Gary (Joanne) Johnson of South Hampton, Pa.; eight grandchildren, Joyce, Paul, Suzanne, Christine and Charlene, all of Pennsylvania, Leslie, Tresa and Alan, all of Florida; three step-grandchildren, Jeanne Mahoney, Nancy Walsh and Michael Walsh of South Bend; 10 great-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren, Ryan and Mitchell; a sister, Genevieve Freed of Mishawaka; a nephew, Randy (Paula) Freed of Mishawaka; and by two nieces, Becky (Mike) Firth of Crystal Beach, Texas, and Cindy (Ron) Buysse of Gunter, Texas.

Mrs. Johnson was a charter member of Grace Brethren Church of Osceola, and served two years as president of the Rural Letter Carriers Postal Auxiliary.

Services for Mrs. Johnson will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 4, in the Palmer Funeral Home, 1109 Lincoln Way West, Osceola. Rev. Scott Distler, pastor, and Rev. Davy Troxell, associate pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola.

Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 3, in the Palmer Funeral Home.
