Albert Johnson

Albert Johnson, 80, of Frederickson Street, South Bend, Ind., died peacefully in his sleep at Hospice House on Monday, April 27, after an extended illness. He was born to Ophelia Ross Johnson and Leeandran Johnson in Bourbon, Miss., on Feb. 25, 1918. He came to South Bend in 1947, coming from Mississippi.

On Dec. 5, 1937, in Greenville, Miss., he married Ida Lee Bush, who survives. He is also survived by five daughters, Queen E. Hamilton, Rosetta (Willie) Corbitt, May Lee Johnson and Leeann R. (Anton) Breveard, all of South Bend, and Jerrie (Larry) Crocker of Detroit, Mich.; three sons, Douglas M. Johnson and John W. Johnson, both of South Bend, and George Q. Johnson of Moss Point, Miss.; a sister, Sadie Davis of Cleveland, Miss.; a brother, Robert Johnson, Sr., of Chicago, Ill.; 30 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren and three great-great- grandchildren; two foster sons, Herschel (Pat) Smith and Don (Mary) Wells, all of Moss Point; and by a host of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by a sister, Lucinda Johnson; and by two brothers, Willie Johnson and James Johnson. Mr. Johnson retired from City Pattern Foundry in 1985 as a molder. He was a member of the New Salem Baptist Church for over 50 years, where he was an usher. He confessed Christ at 12 years old at St. Paul Baptist Church in Bourbon, Miss.

Services will be at 11 a.m. on Friday in the New Salem Baptist Church, 141 S. Camden, South Bend, where friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. today, and from one hour prior to services on Friday. Alford's Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. Rest, Daddy, your work is over, and we all thank you for a job well done.
