SOUTH BEND - Mrs. Carrie B. Jenkins, 84, beloved mother, grandmother and aunt, who resided on Norway Maple Court, South Bend, Indiana departed this life on Tuesday, February 16, 2010, peacefully in her home amongst her family. Carrie was born July 20, 1925 in Osceola, Arkansas to Rosie Lee Small and Robert Hardin, who preceded her in death. In 1947, Carrie married Louis Turley and in August 1957, she married Joseph T. Jenkins to these unions six children were born. Four daughters, Eulette Franklin, Corette (DiVorne) Swanson, Joanne Taylor, and Jacqueline Davis all of South Bend; two sons, Louis Edward (Phillis) Turley, Jr. of Toledo, OH and Jerome (Gail) Jenkins (who preceded her in death). Also preceding her in death is one sister, Minnie L. Woods; one grandson, Nathaniel Franklin, Jr.; one son-in-law, Nathaniel Franklin, Sr. In addition to her children Carrie is survived by thirty-nine grandchildren; sixty-seven great grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren; two nieces, Lillian (John) Attinasi of Long Beach, CA and Linda (Henry) Murphy of South Bend; one sister-in-law, Essie M. Bibbs and one Brother-in-law, Leslie Green both of South Bend; two godsons, Carlton Wilson and Otis Tate and one god sister, Corine Ross all of South Bend. At an early age, Carrie accepted Christ as her personal Savior and shortly after relocation to South Bend, she joined Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, where she has been a faithful member for over sixty years. Mother Carrie was a member if The Mothers Board, The Santuary Choir and served in any capacity of the church where she was needed. Carrie was also a founding member of The Silver Tones Gospel Ensemble. The family would like to extend a special thanks to: the Hospice of St. Joseph County, Dr. Jose Bufill and Dr. Binh Tran for the professional care that was given to our loved one. Services for Mrs. Carrie B. Jenkins will be held on Saturday, February 20, 2010 in the Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, 1862 N. Olive St., South Bend, IN, Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. and funeral services will begin at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow funeral service at Highland Cemetery. The Clark-O'Neal Funeral Home has been entrusted with funeral arrangements.
