SOUTH BEND - Albert C. Jefferson, 94, was born to the union of William and Lucy (Spears) Jefferson on August 1, 1914, in Yarbro, Arkansas. He departed this life on October 13, 2008. He was educated in the Missouri school system. Mr. Jefferson accepted Christ and was born again at a early age. He was a member of the Shady Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Hermondale, MO, for over 65 years. He served as Sunday school superintendent, Deacon and a trustee board member. In the mid-90's he relocated to South Bend, Indiana, where he became a member of the Bethlehem Baptist Church, now under the leadership of Rev. Witherspoon. He was known as the "man who drove the brown truck" and did lawns. While in Missouri he was a farmer, custodian and bus driver. He leaves to cherish his memory seven daughters, Ruthie L. Jefferson of Omaha, NE, Barbara (Andrew) McNear of Hermondale, MO, Essie (Albert) Miller, Nellie Patterson, Mary (Tony) Grable, Linda (K.C.) Thompson, all of South Bend, and Brenda (Steve) Smith of Federal Way, WA; a sister, Rosie Johnson of Blytheville, AR; 15 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren; and a host of loving and caring nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends who loved him very much, especially his beloved Bethlehem Baptist Church (South Bend) family. He was preceded in death by his two wives, Lillian and Lucille; his parents; a sister, Penny; and five brothers, Andrew, J.B., Louis, Isaiah and Solomon. We give special thanks to Dr. Ebonee Davis, the staff at Memorial, Saint Joseph Hospital (South Bend), and the staff at Center for Hospice and Palliative Care, South Bend. We thank Rev. Witherspoon and the Bethlehem Baptist Church family.
