SOUTH BEND - Florentyna M. Janulis was born on February 2, 1920, to Alexander and Alice Mizinski, in Chicago. Raised in Chicago and Georgetown, IL, she started work at 16 during the war. She worked as a special assistant to the president of Pressed Steel Corp, where she had a tank named after her, "Tiny", the ammunition carrier for the experimental tank, "Big Shot". She was one of the first female real estate brokers in the state of Illinois. Later, she entered politics, becoming the Supervisor of Assessments for Vermilion County, IL. She enjoyed campaigning very much, read widely, collected dolls, and traveled, making friends from all walks of life. She died, as she wanted to, at her home on the river, on May 13, at the age of 88. She is survived by her sons, Alexander (Margaret) Janulis, of Manhattan, KS, and Bronislaus Janulis (Susan R. Visser) of South Bend, IN; as well as grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

There will be a visitation at Welsheimer Funeral Home, 521 N. William Street, South Bend, IN from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 20. Memorial contributions in her name may be made to The South Bend Regional Museum of Art, 120 South St. Joseph Street, South Bend, IN 46601.
