Madelyn M. Geyer

April 6, 1920 - Jan. 10, 1999

Madelyn M. Geyer, 78, of Hickory Lane, South Bend, Ind., passed away after a lengthy illness at 7:45 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 10, in Bay-Spirit Acres Homes, Stevensville, Mich.

Mrs. Geyer was born on April 6, 1920, in St. Marys, Ohio, and was a lifelong area resident.

On Aug. 17, 1940, in South Bend, as the former Madelyn Van Acker, she married William Geyer, who preceded her in death on Jan. 16, 1997. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Bertha De Leu; and by two brothers, Keyston and Charles Van Acker.

Mrs. Geyer is survived by two daughters, Judy Benninghoff of South Bend and Mary Ellen (Jim) Wenzel of Niles, Mich.; a son, William E. (Jayne) Geyer, Jr., of South Bend; 11 grandchildren, Dina Williams of South Bend, Edward Bennett, Jr., of St. Joseph, Mich., Leslie Hout of Bristol, Ind., Jim Wenzel, Jr., of Plymouth, Ind., Brenda Krempetz, Darlene McIntee, both of South Bend, Pamela Kemp of Placerville, Calif., Gregory Scott Geyer, William E. Geyer, III, Brook Moore and Lindsey Cullum, all of South Bend; 17 great-grandchildren; and by a brother, Gustave Van Acker of South Bend.

Mrs. Geyer was a former member of the Morris Park Country Club where she had won the Ladies Golf Championship several times. She was third baseman for the Hoosier Beer Girls softball team.

Private services have been planned. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to Bay-Spirit Acres Homes, 2060 W. John Beers Road, Stevensville, MI 49127.

Mrs. Geyer's family would like to send a special thank you to Bay-Spirit Acres Homes for all of their wonderful care.
