MISHAWAKA - Velma Gerstbauer, 77, of Bremen Highway, died at 4:35 a.m. today in St. Joseph Hospital after an illness. Mrs. Gerstbauer was a former nurse at the emergency room of St. Joseph Hospital and retired in 1979 from Dodge Division of Reliance Electric Co. as a nurse.

She was born Sept. 2, 1916, in Mishawaka and was a lifelong area resident. On April 15, 1941, in Mishawaka, as Velma Coesens, she married Fabian L. Gerstbauer. He died in 1968. She is survived by a daughter, Jacquline Curie of Austin, Texas; two sons, Timothy and Terry, both of Mishawaka; four grandchildren; and two sisters, Mary Korpal of South Bend and Sister M. Cyril, PHJC, (Bertha Coesens) of Donaldson.
