SOUTH BEND - Mr. Andrew E. Gerschoffer, 82, passed away Monday evening at 9:55 p.m. in Hospice House, South Bend. Andy was born in Chicago to the late Louis and Elizabeth (Kovatch) Gerschoffer. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving in both WW II and the Korean Wars. He retired from the South Bend Tribune after 44 years as a printer in the composing room. He was a member of St. Anthony's Parish and VFW Post #360. He enjoyed playing the harmonica and the accordion. On May 24, 1952, he married Anna Victoria (Barrett) Gerschoffer, who passed away March 14, 1998. Surviving are his four children, Thomas Gerschoffer, Suzanne Gerschoffer and James R. Gerschoffer, all of South Bend, and Janet A. (Robert) Langel Jr. of Mishawaka. His sister, Carolyn Gerschoffer of South Bend, also survives. A memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated next Tuesday, May 18, at 10:00 a.m. in St. Anthony de Padua Catholic Church, with Rev. Mark A. Gurtner, JCL, pastor, officiating. Friends may call from 9-9:50 a.m. when a Military Honors Service will take place before Mass. Donations may be made in his memory to The Center for Hospice and Palliative Care, 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637. McGann Hay Funeral Homes, University Chapel, assisted the family with arrangements.
