Sister Mary Genoveva CSC, 90, of Saint Mary’s Convent died at 7:50 p.m. Friday in the convent after a brief illness. Born Mary Kold Genevieve on Dec. 11, 1892 in Grand Rapids, she entered the Congregation of the Sister of the Holy Cross on Sept. 1, 1915 at St. Mary’s coming from Grand Rapids. She was received as a novice on Dec. 10 of that same year, and professed her vows on Dec. 10, 1917. Throughout her religious life she was assigned to secondary education in schools conducted by the order in Washington DC; Alexandria Va.; Lancaster Pa.; Kensington Md.; Brookline Mass.; Los Angeles; and Austin TX. She returned to St. Mary’s Convent in 1968. She is survived by a sister, Viola Smalley of Grand Rapids.

 

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Our Lady of Loretto Church and burial will be in Our Lady of Peace Cemetery at St. Mary’s. Friends may call until services at the St. Mary’s Convent Parlors, where a wake service will take place to 7 p.m. today.
