SOUTH BEND - Frank M. Gawenda, 81, of West Ford Street, died at 3 a.m. Sunday in his home. Mr. Gawenda retired from Levi Ward Grocery Co. after 33 years of service.

He was born May 23, 1914, in Chicago and lived in South Bend for 58 years. On Sept. 11, 1937, in South Bend, he married Mary Sobczyk. She survives with two sons, Gerald of Osceola and Daniel of Summerville, S.C.; five grandchildren; and a sister, Florence Dacomb of San Antonio, Texas. He was a member of Teamsters Local 364 and St. Joseph Young Mens Society.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in St. Adalbert's Catholic Church. Entombment will be in Resurrection Gardens Mausoleum of St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in St. Joseph Funeral Home, where a parish rosary will be said at 4 p.m.
