Herbert L. Garman

April 4, 1920 - July 22, 1998

Herbert L. Garman, 78, of East Gate Circle, Mishawaka, Ind., passed away at 12:25 a.m. on Wednesday, July 22, at St. Joseph Community Hospital.

Herbert was born in Fulton County on April 4, 1920, and was a lifelong area resident. He was the son of the late Carrow and Leaona Garman. Herbert was also preceded in death by a brother, Charles in 1978.

Herbert retired in 1989 as owner and operator of the Herb Garman Trucking Company/Roger Cartage Company, Chicago, Ill. Herbert started his working years with his father at the Garman's Blacksmith Shop on Union Street.

He was a World War II Army veteran, a charter member of the Mishawaka Pilots Club, the Michiana Steelheaders Club, Veterans of Foreign Wars 360 and the American Legion 161. Herbert was also an avid fisherman.

On Jan. 11, 1941, in Mishawaka, Herbert married Frances I. Nunnally, who survives.

He is also survived by a daughter, Carol A. Decker of Mishawaka; two sons, John C. Garman of Mishawaka and Herbert G. Garman of Tucson, Ariz.; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; three brothers, Hugh Garman of Mishawaka, John Garman of Granger, Ind., Harold Garman of Kalamazoo, Mich.; and by two sisters, Harriet Watkins of Fort Pierce, Fla., and Mary Jane Rigley of Mishawaka.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday in the Bubb Funeral Chapel North, 3910 N. Main Street, Mishawaka. Burial will be at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola, Ind. There will not be a funeral service.
