Melanie Gard

March 11, 1964 - March 30, 2005

Melanie was born in Elkhart, Indiana. She had resided the majority of her life in South Bend and recently moved to Osceola, Indiana, where she lived in a group home. Melanie had been a student at Logan School and participated in the Adult Day Services of Logan. More recently she was a participant in the Anthony Wayne Services Day Program.

 

Melanie's parents are Dorothy L. (McDaniel) and Thomas R. Gard. She has one sister, Dawn Gard, and two half brothers, Brian Rittenhouse and Clarence Rittenhouse. Melanie was truly a gifted person who brought joy to many people. She loved her life with great dignity, and was at all times an enlightened teacher.

 

The Protective Services Board would like to express our gratitude to the caring physicians and nursing staff of Memorials ICU and to Father Richard Laurich, C.S.C. We are also grateful to the staff of Anthony Wayne Services who provided Melanie with a beautiful home and also offered valuable support to Melanie throughout her hospital stay. Memorial contributions may be made on behalf of Melanie to the Logan Protective Services Board, 1235 N. Eddy, South Bend, IN 46617.

 

Friends are calling from 10:15 a.m. on Friday, April 1, 2005, until 11 a.m. where services will be held at the 1st Christian Church, 1101 E. Jefferson Blvd., South Bend. Arrangements are being handled by the McGann Funeral Home, University Area Chapel, 2313 E. Edison Road, South Bend, IN 46615.
