MISHAWAKA - Elizabeth "Betty" Furore, 89, passed away at 6 a.m. on June 8th in Tender Loving Care Assisted Living, South Bend, after a short illness. Betty was born January 2, 1919, in Plati, Italy, to the late Anna Rosaria (Mittiga) and Rocco Barbaro. On April 16, 1939, in Niles, MI, as Betty Barbaro, she married Tony Furore, who preceded her in death on June 9, 1983. In 1941 they moved to Mishawaka where they resided for their lifetime. Betty and Tony owned and operated the former "Tony's Restaurant" for 25 years. She enjoyed cooking her wonderful Italian dishes and spending time with her family and friends. Betty loved and cherished her family as they did her. Betty is survived by two daughters, JoAnn (Michael) Laatz of South Bend and Rosetta (David) Everett of Elkhart. She has three grandchildren, Michael (Christine) Laatz of Cary, NC, Mark (Kathy) Laatz of Granger and Allison Laatz of Indianapolis. Also surviving are three step-grandchildren, Lisa (Jack) Makowski of Granger, Laura (Ken) Deak of Cassopolis, MI, and David (Shane) Everett of Osceola. Betty was loved by her six great-grandchildren and six step-great-grandchildren. In addition surviving are two sisters, Mary Angeline Ferraro of Mishawaka and Marion D'Onofrio of Canyon Lake, CA; and a sister-in-law, Margaret Barbaro of Pasadena, CA. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Frank and Philip Barbaro. Betty was an active member of St. Monica's Church. She enjoyed playing cards and gardening. She will be greatly missed by all of those who knew her.

 

Visitation will be held in the Bubb Funeral Home, Mishawaka, from 3 to 7 p.m. today, June 10. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, June 11, in St. Monica's Catholic Church, where friends may call one hour prior. Burial is to follow the Mass at Fairview Cemetery. Contributions may be made to The Center for Hospice and Palliative Care or to St. Monica's Catholic Church.
