SOUTH BEND - Delbert L. Frick, 88, of South Bend, passed away of natural causes on Friday, February 12, 2010, at the Sanctuary at St. Joseph. Delbert was born June 28, 1921, in Mishawaka, Indiana, to the late Clarence L. and Elizabeth (Stephan) Frick. On September 14, 1941, Delbert married Mildred Lee Lewis in South Bend, Indiana. Their marriage lasted 68 years. Surviving are his wife, Mildred Frick of South Bend; their daughter, Penny (Michael) Michaels of Granger; and their son, Franklin (Karen) Frick of South Bend. Also surviving are two brothers, Melvin Frick and Clarence Frick Jr., both of South Bend. Surviving as well are three grandchildren; Clayton Michaels of Granger, Asheley Sanders of Mishawaka and Sarah (Ryan) Nalepinski of Scottsdale, Arizona; and three great grandchildren, Ethan King, Riley James and Avary Zwerzinski. Delbert was preceded in death by his brothers, Donald and Raymond Frick. Visitation will be held 2 hours prior to the 3:00 p.m. funeral service on Tuesday, February 16, 2010, at Chapel Hill Funeral Home in Osceola. Interment will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Delbert was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. During World War II he served in the South Pacific before his honorable discharge. He was employed as a carpenter for many years, both with Portage Realty and Tom Forsey until his retirement in 1983. Mr. Frick was a member of the Carpenters Union, VFW Post #1167 in South Bend and the Disabled American Veterans. In his spare time, Delbert enjoyed working in the garden, playing golf, and serving others doing repair work and handyman projects.
