SOUTH BEND - August M. ''Augie'' DeWitte, 76, of Summit Ridge Drive, South Bend, Ind., died at 11:55 p.m. on Saturday, June 13, in Hospice House, South Bend. Mr. DeWitte retired as a sales representative from H.J. Heinz Company in 1988 after 40 years of employment. He was born on Feb. 16, 1922, in Mishawaka, Ind., and was a lifelong resident.

He married the former Ester Kubiak, who survives. He is also survived by a son, David A. (Debbie) DeWitte of Noblesville, Ind.; two grandchildren, Stephanie DeWitte and David M. DeWitte, M.D., both of Indianapolis, Ind.; one sister, Alice Fredericks of Mishawaka; and one brother, Emiel (Loretta) DeWitte of South Bend. Mr. DeWitte belonged to Corpus Christi Parish, Polish National Alliance (PNA) 83, and Eagle's Lodge 225 in Mishawaka.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 20, in Corpus Christi Catholic Church, with Rev. Camillo Tirabassi officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, June 19, in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, where a parish Rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m.
