Mary E. Mead Denslow

SOUTH BEND - Mary E. Mead Denslow, 92, residing in South Bend, passed away Friday, November 14, 2008, in Buchanan Meadows Living Center, Buchanan, MI. She was born February 7, 1916, in South Bend, IN, the daughter of Alex and Elizabeth (Kovatch) Molnar, and had been a lifelong resident of this area. Mrs. Denslow was employed for 10 years with Wilson Brothers Shirt Factory, worked at Studebaker's during the war, and retired in 1967 from Lincoln Highway Inn in Mishawaka. Mary had a patriotic spirit. She was a member and past president for five terms of American Legion Auxiliary Post 50, South Bend, was past president of the 3rd District American Legion Auxiliary, was department chairman of the Auxiliary Emergency Fund, served as chaplain of St. Joseph County Salon #56 and the 8 & 40 Salon. She was also the past secretary of Indiana 8 & 40, a member of V.F.W. Post 624, Roseland, Women of the Moose Chapter 98, Mishawaka, and was a member of Howard Park Senior Citizens Euchre Club. She was also a member of St. Matthew Cathedral, South Bend. She spent many winters in Bradenton, FL. In 1942

 

Mary was united in marriage to Harry Mead. From this union three sons were born and survive her. They are Barry (Patricia) Mead of Niles, MI, Wesley (Janice) Mead and Douglas (Pam) Mead, all of South Bend. Then on September 29, 1963, in Niles, MI, she was united in marriage to John M. Denslow, who preceded her in death on November 30, 1980. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Alex Molnar and John Peli; and four sisters, Goldie Paul, Betty Wacumas, Anne Hagquist and Irene Peli. Mary is also survived by 10 grandchildren, Barry (Missy) Mead II, Patrick (Angie) Mead, Tony (Jane) Mead, Todd (Stephanie) Mead, Laurie Savage, Wesley Guy Mead Jr., Cecelia (Jerry) Gross, Scott Mead, Mary (Daniel) Nally and Dawne Wardlow; 17 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; a sister, Helen Szekendi; and a brother, Mickey (Barbara) Peli of South Bend.

 

The family will receive friends from 3:00 - 8:00 p.m. today, Nov. 17, in the Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, 3718 South Michigan Street, South Bend. Graveside services and burial will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 18, at Southlawn Cemetery, 61300 U.S. 31 South, South Bend. Rev. Terry Fisher of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mishawaka, will officiate.
