“Woman, 51, Ends Life With Gas.”

Miss Emma DeLong, aged 51, of 1021 South Logan street, was found dead on the floor of the kitchen of her home by her brother, George DeLong, when he returned home from work shortly after noon Saturday.

Police said she left a note stating that she was taking her life because of illness.

The woman's brother told authorities that he smelled gas when he entered the house and found his sister on the floor with the kitchen stove gas burners turned on.  A pet dog was also killed by the gas.

She was born in Marcellus, Mich., March 22, 1892 and came to South Bend 42 years ago.  Surviving besides her brother, George, are another brother, Orin, of Mishawaka, and four sisters, Mrs. Hattie Gordon and Mrs. Margaret Forsberg, both of South Bend; Mrs. Sue Anglin, of Mishawaka, and Mrs. Edna Martin, of El Monte, Calif.
