Mary E. Delnat

April 16, 1937 - April 21, 2010
MISHAWAKA - Mary E. Delnat, 73, passed away on April 21 in her home. Mary was born on April 16, 1937 in Garnett, KS, as the daughter of B. Ellis and Nora (Miller) Dykes. On July 7, 1956 in St. Joseph Catholic Church, South Bend as the former Mary Dykes, she married George Delnat. Mary loved life. She always made anyone who came into her home welcome and was always willing to lend a hand to anyone. She was an expert seamstress, making everything from doll clothes to prom dresses to Melanie's wedding gown and Laura's bridesmaid dresses. Known especially for her pies, Mary was an excellent cook. After working at Mary Kay Fabrics for years, she joined MFB Bank and was a receptionist for 18 years. Mary LOVED her family, especially her grandchildren. She was a member of St. Bavo Catholic Church and a member of the choir. Her strong faith and passion for God sustained her and her family in all the good and difficult times. Her integrity and honesty are strong character traits that will be missed by all who knew her. Mary was a devoted and caring friend to many people. Heaven has a new angel. Surviving are her loving husband, George; children, Melanie (Rudy) Espinoza of Nappanee, IN, Gregory (Cindy) Delnat of Mishawaka, Laura (Gary) Strassell of Maineville, OH and Andrew (Chris) Delnat of W. Terre Haute, IN; eight grandchildren, Amy (Lars) McCain, Joseph Morgan, Aaron (Wanda) Morgan, Gregory Delnat Jr., Michael Strassell, Erin Strassell, William Strassell, Benjamin Delnat; three step grandchildren, Amy Hawkins, Sarah Hawkins, and Andrew Hawkins; two great grandchildren, Ryan and Erika Morgan; a sister, Marla Gallery of Phoenix, AZ and two brothers, E. Brady Dykes of Azle, TX and Jerry Dykes of Elkhart, IN. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Ronald Dykes and a son-in-law, Thomas Morgan. Visitation will be on Monday, April 26 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. with a Rosary at 3:30 p.m. in Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka. A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Tuesday, April 27 at 10:00 a.m. in St. Bavo Catholic Church, Mishawaka, with Rev. Barry England officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Mishawaka.
