MISHAWAKA - Joseph "Joey" P. Dean, 49, passed away on
Sunday, June 20, 2010, at home. Joey was born on August 31, 1960,
in Mishawaka, to Francis "Frank" and Joan Dean. He was
preceded in death by his father, and by a sister, Susan Dean.
Surviving are his mother, Joan Dean of Mishawaka; sisters, Cheryl
(Gary) Hathcoat of St. Joseph, MI, Kim Dean of Mishawaka, Mary
(Dan) Juckett of Mishawaka and Judy (Cory) Stewart of Mishawaka;
brothers, John Dean of Buffalo Grove, IL, James Dean of Mishawaka
and Jeffrey Dean of Mishawaka. Joey worked for Logan Industries
in production. He was a lifelong area resident. He was a member
of St. Joseph County Special Olympics for 35 years where he
received hundreds of medals. Joey was the first Special Olympics
athlete in St. Joseph County to receive the Ervin Derda Award
recognizing the athlete of the year. Joey enjoyed golfing and
being with other people. He was a friend to everyone he would
meet. He was loved by everyone and loved everyone he would meet.
The family would like to thank the many coaches and people who
worked with Joey over the years. Especially Pot Palmer, Tim
Silverberg and Margaret Farmer. And a special thank you to
Nancy Rosenstock, because she knows why, Doctors Rafat Ansari,
Daniel Kletzing and David Hornback. Visitation will be from 3 to
8 p.m. today, June 22nd, in Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street,
Mishawaka. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on
Wednesday, June 23rd, in St. Bavo Catholic Church, with Rev.
Barry England officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview
Cemetery, Mishawaka. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions
may be made to St. Joseph County Special Olympics, P.O. Box 643,
Mishawaka, IN 46546-0643; or to the Center for Hospice and
Palliative Care, 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637. To
