Nancy E. Caton

Oct. 27, 1936 - May 19, 2010
SOUTH BEND - Nancy Ellen Caton, 73, residing in Sandpoint, Idaho, passed away on May 19, 2010, after a brief illness surrounded by her children, sister and granddaughter, Kristina Mollenberg. She was born on October 27, 1936, in Clinton, Indiana, to Martha Lee (Funk) and Herman H. Miller, who preceded her in death, as does her foster brother, Oscar Mantanona. She is survived by her children, Renee Caton (Steve Vujnovich) of Kamuela, Hawaii, Charesse Moore (Paul Dupnicka) of Sandpoint, Idaho, Brandon (Linda) Caton of San Diego, CA, and Simone Caton of Bonsell, CA; a sister, Ann (Ronald) Silverman of South Bend, IN; 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Nancy grew up in South Bend, IN, graduated from Central H.S. in 1953, and received a B.S. degree in education from Ball State in 1957. In 1955 she married Norman Caton from Middlebury, IN, who preceded her in death in 1993. Both began teaching careers in Hammond, IN, then continued teaching in Guam (1959-1967), where three children were born in this tropical paradise before settling in another tropical paradise, Hawaii, for the next 20 years. Nancy and Norman enjoyed world travel and the richness of cultures where they lived and traveled, and returned regularly to Indiana to visit family and friends. She made new friends everywhere she lived and always corresponded with lively letters. After Norman's death, Nancy divided her time between Sandpoint and San Diego. She lived simply, doting on the accomplishments of her children and grandchildren, all who were the love of her life. Nancy was a prolific editor of family photo albums. Coffelt Funeral Services of Sandpoint handled the cremation arrangements before a private family memorial service. Contributions in memory of Nancy Caton may be made to the Mililani Public Library, 95-450 Makaimoimo St., Mililani, HI 96789.
