George S. Carr

March 16, 1932 - Sept. 13, 1999

George S. Carr, 67 years old, residing on Poppy Road in South Bend, IN, passed away after a brief illness at 2:21 P.M. on Monday, September 13, 1999 at the St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in South Bend. Mr. Carr retired from Bendix Corporation in South Bend in 1983 after 32 years of employment. He was a member of the Bethany Evangelical Lutheran Church in South Bend and UAW Local #9 in South Bend. Mr. Carr graduated from Niles High School in 1951 and was also a graduate of the DeVry Technical Institute. Mr. Carr was born on March 16, 1932 in Dolton, IL to the late William McKinley and Georgia Mildred (Brown) Carr. He had lived in South Bend since 1951.

 

On July 6, 1951 in North Liberty, IN he married Joy C. Platz who survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Becky (Joe) Papai of South Bend and Susan (Tim) Lehman of Edwardsburg, MI; two sons, Dean Carr of North Liberty and Lee Carr of South Bend; three granddaughters, Ann Marie Papai of South Bend, Megan Erin Lehman and Lindsay Nicole Lehman, both of Edwardsburg, MI; sister-in-law, Grace Carr of Cassopolis, MI; brother and sister-in law, Hillis and Gloria Platz of North Liberty; sister-in-law, Evadean Platz of Walkerton and several nieces and nephews.

 

Funeral services will be at 10:00 A.M. on Friday, September 17, 1999 at the Palmer Funeral Home, 314 S. Michigan Street, Lakeville, IN. Rev. John Holten, interim pastor of Bethany Evangelical Lutheran Church, will officiate. Graveside services and burial will follow at Sumption Prairie Cemetery in South Bend. Friends may call from 2 - 4 and 6 - 8 P.M. on Thursday at the Palmer Funeral Home, Lakeville. Contributions in memory of George S. Carr may be donated to Hospice of St. Joseph County, 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637 or to the charity of the donors' choice.
