Virginia R. Canfield

Virginia R. Canfield, 84, lifetime resident of Mishawaka, Ind., died Tuesday morning, Dec. 4, of natural causes. Virginia was born on March 16, 1917, the daughter of Frank and Emma Huba.

Before her marriage to Clement J. Canfield, who preceded her in death Jan. 1, 1989, she was employed at Studebakers of South Bend, Ind. During a full life of lovingly raising nine children, she also generously volunteered her time, including at Beiger School, Mishawaka, and Saint Joseph Hospital, Mishawaka. As a member of St. Joseph Parish, Mishawaka, she was involved in Rosary Circle 6 and the parish golf league.

 

Siblings preceding her in death were a brother, Richard Huba, and a sister, Marie Hall of Mishawaka. She is survived by four daughters, Patricia (Gerald) Willing, Dolores Canfield, Janet Grauel of South Bend and Marilyn (Jim) Skaalerud of Lebanon, Tenn.; five sons, Thomas (Deb) of Elkhart, Ind., Martin of Mishawaka, Gregory of South Bend, Michael (Celine), and James (Irma) of San Antonio, Texas; and by a sister, Eileen Bueche of Mishawaka. She has 23 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

 

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today, Dec. 6, in the Thallemer-Goethals Funeral Home in Mishawaka. A funeral M ass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 7, in St. Joseph Church, Mishawaka, with interment following at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola, Ind.
