WALKERTON - Cheryl A. Campion, 65, of Walkerton lost her valiant battle with cancer at 3:30 a.m. Wednesday, January 23, 2008. She was in her home surrounded by her loving husband and family. Mrs. Campion retired from the Walkerton Police Dept. where she had worked as a dispatcher for 27 years. She was born on February 26, 1942, in LaPorte, Indiana, to LaMoine and Leah Baxter Lloyd.

 

She had resided in the Walkerton area most of her life. She is survived by six children. Three from her first union, R. Michael (Rhonda Erdelyi, David T. (Melissa) Erdelyi and Daniel J. (Lisa) Erdelyi. Her second union to Ralph Campion Sr. on December 21, 1979, brought three more children into the family. Ralph Campion Jr., Anita M. Kruszewski and Thomas J. Campion. She has 14 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. In addition, she is survived by her mother, Leah Cripe of Walkerton; three sisters, Nancy (Lewis) Reese of Mill Creek, Kay (Dirk) Pletcher and Kari (William) Albert, both of Walkerton; and two brothers, D.W. (Terri) Cripe of Walkerton and Fredrick (Wanda) Lloyd of Culver, IN. After the loss of her father at an early age, her mother married Charles (Poppy) Cripe Jr. He stepped in to be the father she had lost. She was preceded in death by her father (LaMoine); two brothers, Charles A. Lloyd and Robert L. Lloyd; and father, Charles (Poppy) Cripe Jr. Mrs. Campion was a member of FOP #195 Plymouth, Indiana. She served for many years as an E.M.T. for the Walkerton Ambulance Service. She was a volunteer at Potato Creek State Park where she enjoyed camping and the fellowship of her many camping friends. She loved to cook for her family and friends and her favorite pastime was crocheting and sewing.

 

Visitation hours will be from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. today, January 25, and from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, in Hanley and Sons Funeral Home "Walkerton Chapel," located at 1216 Roosevelt Road, Walkerton. Funeral services will be held at noon Saturday in the Walkerton United Methodist Church, with Pastors Jill Lowry-Sills and Charlene Harris Allen officiating. Burial to follow at Woodlawn Cemetery - Walkerton. The family request, in lieu of flowers, PLEASE make all memorial contributions to the Marshall County Community Foundation for the benefit of the Michael Charles Albert Scholarship Fund. The HANLEY & Sons Funeral Home "Walkerton Chapel" handled arrangements and extends its deepest sympathy and heartfelt prayers to the Campion family.
