Rosa Calderone

Rosa Calderone, 74, formerly of Mishawaka, Ind., passed away on Saturday morning, Jan. 2, in her daughter's residence in LaPorte, Ind., where she had made her home the past three years.

 

Rosa was born on Jan. 2, 1925, in Naples, Italy, to the late Alfonso and Adele (Carabella) Sacco. On April 4, 1943, in Naples, Rosa married Jerome Calderone, who preceded her in death on April 11, 1995. She was also preceded in death by a son, Joseph, on Sept. 5, 1969; and by a brother, Pasquale Sacco.

 

She is survived by three daughters, Philomena VanVooren of Mishawaka, Adelina ''Lina'' Roe of LaPorte and Bettina Udongo of South Bend, Ind.; three sons, Rocco of Niles, Mich., Alfonso and Angelo, both of Mishawaka; 18 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; and by three brothers, Francesco, Gino and Alfonso Sacco, all of Naples, Italy.

 

Rosa and her late husband owned and operated Jerome's Tailor Shop in Mishawaka for 12 years.

Prior to that Rosa was a seamstress at Gilbert's in South Bend for ten years.

 

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 5, in the Thallemer-Goethals Funeral Home, Mishawaka. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 6, in St. Bavo Catholic Church, Mishawaka. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Mishawaka.
