Patricia L. Butts

Patricia L. Butts, 65, residing on Alpine Drive, South Bend, Ind., passed away at 1:15 a.m. Thursday, March 29, in her home following a two year illness. Mrs. Butts was born on March 28, 1936, in South Bend, Ind., to the late Harley and Hazel (Faxton) Rose and lived in this area all of her life.

 

On Sept. 11, 1952, in St. Joseph, Mich., as Patricia Rose, she married Harold Smith, who preceded her in death on Nov. 19,1974. On Nov. 12, 1977, in South Bend, She married John Tompkins, who died Nov. 9, 1991. Then on June 18,1994 in South Bend, she married Robert Butts, who survives. Along with her husband, Robert Butts of South Bend, survivors include two daughters, Diane L. Smith of Mishawaka and Debbie A. Smith of South Bend; four sons, Harold N. Smith, Jerry (Sharyl) Smith, Robert W. Smith and Ray E. (Anita) Smith, all of South Bend; fourteen grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Bertha (Al) Horvath of South Bend and Delta (Chet) Jones of Niles, Mich.; and three brothers, Joseph (Shirley) Rose of Niles, John (Carol) Rose of Dade, Fla., and Donald (Mary) Rose of South Bend. Mrs. Butts was preceded in death by a grandson, Stephen Smith; a granddaughter, Kerry Smith; a sister, Rachel McCarty and a brother, Harley Rose.

 

Mrs. Butts retired in 1989 following 50 years as a cook at various locations including Russ' Restaurant on Lincolnway West, South Bend, and VFW Post 624 in Roseland. She was a lifetime member of VFW Post 624 in Roseland where she held various positions including historian.

 

Funeral services for Mrs. Butts will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, April 2, at Palmer Funeral Home, 2528 Mishawaka Venue, South Bend. Rev. John Fisher will officiate. Entombment will follow in Riverview Cemetery, South Bend. Friends may call from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, April 1, in the Palmer Funeral Home. Contributions in memory of Patricia L. Butts may be given to Hospice of St. Joseph County, 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637.
