Elwood Burnett

Elwood Burnett, 81, formerly of St. Bernice, died at his son's residence in South Bend on Dec. 20, 2005. He was born Feb. 4, 1924, in Lamar, TX, to Jacob Levi Burnett and Cristene Chesser Burnett. He was preceded in death my his wife, Vivian Burnett, on June 13, 1990. He was a retired truck driver for Commercial Motor Freight Company with 37 years of service. He was also a volunteer fireman for Penn South for 25 years.

 

He is survived by his three daughters, Christena Holderread of Elkhart, IN, Helen Freeman of Dover, Ark., Theresa and Bob Reed of Clinton, Ark. Also surviving are four sons, Jerry and Lorene Burnett of El Paso, TX, William "Don" and Sally of South Bend, IN, Daniel of West Terre Haute, and Harold of Terre Haute. He was preceded in death by one son, Lawrence Burnett; a brother, Sidney Burnett; and two sisters, Edith Sain and Ruth Harper.

 

He is survived by three sisters, Gladys Berry of Clinton, IN, Mary Edmondson and her husband, John of Pottsville, Ark., Beatrice and Don Richey of Russelville, Ark. He is also survived by 25 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. He was well-loved by all his grandchildren.

 

Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today in Frist Funeral Home in Clinton, with services at 1 p.m. Friday in Frist Funeral Home, with Rev. Terry Anthony officiating. Burial will be at Sugar Grove Cemetery.
