Marzetta Burke

February 2, 1925 – December 5, 1998

 Marzetta Burke, 73, of Cleveland Road, passed away unexpectedly at 11:37 a.m. on Tuesday, December 2, 1998.

She was born in South Bend, Ind., to the late Edward and Sadie (Harris) Smith on February 2, 1925. On February 2, 1946, she was united in marriage to Kenneth A. Burke, Sr., who preceded her in death on August 13, 1993. They were blessed with four children.

She leaves to cherish her memory three daughters, Patricia (Chip) Dempsey, Jr., of Mishawaka, Ind., Bernadette (Tom) Taylor and Marie (Robert) Chynoweth, both of Indianapolis, Ind.; a son, Kenneth (Lisa) Burke, Jr., of Orlando, Fla.; her mother, Sadie Smith of South Bend; two sisters, Dorothy White of South Bend and Phyllis Walker of LaVerne, Calif.; a brother, Edward Smith, Jr., of South Bend; nine grandchildren, Lance Dempsey of Charlotte, N.C., Tiffany Dempsey of Mishawaka, Lori Pope of Stockbridge, Ga., Julian Pope of Titusville, Fla, Aren and Brianna Chynoweth of Indianapolis, and Brandon, Alyson, and Colin Burke, all of Orlando; three sisters-in-law, Mahalath F. Thompson and Frances Thompson, both of Jamaica, and Edith Shepherd of England; and by a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Mrs. Burke was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, South Bend.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today in the McGann Funeral Homes, University Area Chapel, 2313 E. Edison Road, South Bend.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Wednesday in the funeral home.
