SOUTH BEND - Services for Effie L. Burke, 90, of Three Rivers Manor, formerly of South Bend, who died Monday in Three Rivers Area Hospital, will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Welsheimer Funeral Home North, 17033 Cleveland Road. Burial will be in St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to American Heart Association or Three Rivers First United Methodist Church.

 

Mrs. Burke retired in 1968 from South Bend Community School Corp. as a teacher at Swanson and also had taught at Maple Lane and Stuckey schools. She was born July 31, 1905, in Huntington, Ind., and lived in South Bend from 1917 to 1968.

 

On June 10, 1928, in South Bend, as Effie L. Burkart, she married Fred H. Burke. He died Dec. 15, 1969. She is survived by a daughter, Bette E. Lisek of Three Rivers; two sons, George F. of Three Rivers and Ronald D. of South Bend; 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a sister, Hazel Foster of Granger. She was a member of the church, Indiana Retired Teachers Association and American Association of University Women.
