William Burchell Sr.

William Burchell Sr., 84, of Wedgewood Drive, South Bend, Ind., formerly of Patterson, N.J., passed away at 7:15 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 17, in Memorial Hospital, South Bend. William was born on Aug. 29, 1917, in Patterson, to Samuel and Harriett Burchell, who have both preceded him in death. Will was also preceded in death by his daughter, Susan Burchell; his brothers, Frank and Sam Burchell; and by his sisters, Harriett and Betty Burchell.

On Jan. 24, 1942, in Patterson, he married Jessie E. Schmidt. William leaves to cherish his memories his loving wife, and his son, William Burchell Jr. of West Lafayette, Ind. William organized and attended Clay United Methodist Church in South Bend. He was also a member of the Mason Lodge #745 in Council Oak, Roseland, Ind.

Friends may visit from 4 to 8 p.m. today, Sept. 19, in the Chapel Hill Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 20, in Clay United Methodist Church, South Bend. Dr. Herb Buwalda and Rev. Bill Imler will be officiating. Interment will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Osceola, Ind. Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association or to the American Cancer Society.
